Dussehra

Dussehra is a festival celebrated all over India. The legend associated the celebration, vary vastly by region; however, all festivities celebrate the victory of righteousness, goodness over evil and virtue over vices.

It is also considered to be an auspicious day to begin new things in life. In Northern India, the festival commemorates the victory of Lord Shri Rama, prince of Ayodhya and an avatar of Lord Vishnu, over Ravana, the ruler of Lanka, who had abducted Rama’s wife, Sita.

The festival is celebrated with much gusto. Fairs are organized and an abridged dramatization of the Ramayana is enacted by people, depicting Rama killing the demon king Ravana. This enactment is known as Ramlila and people gather in thousands to watch it amidst burst of fire crackers. The ten heads of Ravana resemble the negative emotions like anger, lust, greed, ego, jealousy, attachment, deluded vision, covetousness, falsity, and violence. Thus, the killing of Ravana signifies the control of the mind in life of a spiritual aspirant.

The disciples of Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji celebrate Dussehra every year, with great enthusiasm and spiritual fervour.
