Guru Puja

Guru Puja is a festival of paying homage to one’s Guru.

The syllable ‘gu’ means shadows;

The syllable ‘ru’, he who disperses them;

Because of the power to disperse darkness the Guru is thus named.

– Advayataraka Upanishad 14—18, verse 5

Guru is one who shows us light (actual form of God) and destroys the darkness (His absence) through transference of spiritual power into the disciple. Thus, a Spiritual Guru dispels spiritual ignorance with spiritual illumination (Self Realization).

The Guru-shishya tradition is a spiritual relationship in traditional Hinduism, where teachings are transmitted from a Guru (teacher) to a shishya (disciple). It is considered that in this relationship, the genuineness of the Guru, and the respect, commitment, devotion and obedience of the student is the only criteria for knowledge to be conveyed.

To glorify the significance of His Holiness Gurudev and celebrate Guru Puja in its full radiance and fervor, the devout followers of Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji assemble every year at different branches of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan all around the globe, and pay homage to their revered Master.

At Nurmahal, around 7,00,000 devotees attend this traditional and pious programme. Devotional sermons and songs are delivered, which are followed by Langar (Community meal).
