Not just “adore” Lord Krishna but also “adhere” to the spiritual truths revealed by Him
Birth of Lord Krishna
Shri Krishna Janmashtmi is celebrated by Hindus all over the world as the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. Lord incarnate descended upon Earth in human form in the month of Sravana more than 5,000 years ago during the Dvapara Yug with the objective of liberating mankind that lay shackled at the mercy of demons. His role in the legendary battle Mahabharata is well-known for the revelation of the theory of devotion and action through the masterpiece divine literary work, Shrimad Bhagavad-Gita, in the battle-field of Kurukshetra. The beneficiary of the greatest gift in the form of Brahm Gyan (Divine Knowledge) was Arjuna – the warrior. When he was engulfed in sorrow and indecision, incapable of action and lacking direction, he received this knowledge at such momentous time, and the spiritual history of mankind was created.
Celebrations at Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan
Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan is an international socio-spiritual non-governmental organization. His Holiness Ashutosh Ji Maharaj Ji is the founder and head of the organization. Disciples of His Holiness have been blessed with Brahm Gyan (Divine Knowledge) with His benign grace. The organization has more than three hundred branches in India and twenty-five centers in other countries outside India. Two important overseas branches are in London and New York. The concept of “One World One Family” is practiced in letter and spirit, by the millions of devotees of His Holiness Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji. His exposition of religious spiritual texts, in their true form , that is simple and easy to understand, have been widely acknowledged and accepted both by great scholars as well as men and women from all communities.
One sees many Janmashtmi celebrations across the city, and other locations. Some of them being organized on a grand scale with elegantly decorated stages, trying to recreate Lord Krishna’s durbar, and Jhankis that depict the dramatic sequences of his life. Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan will be showcasing Jhankis to highlight some of the important messages that Lord Krishna brought to society, and show relevance to address today’s social issues.
1. Grace on the Kaliya Serpent
It was brought to the notice of Lord Krishna that the venomous snake Kaliya had rendered the water of the holy river Yamuna poisonous. He challenged it and the serpent fiercely attacked Krishna, but soon He reached upon its hoods and danced upon them. So impactful was the retaliatory action of the Lord Almighty that Kaliya vomited blood. However, Lord Krishna listened to the prayers by the wives of Kaliya, and spared his life. He facilitated his relocation at the Ramanaka Island in the sea. The waters of Yamuna turned pure and crystal clear.
Today, those who pollute the waters of Yamuna correlate to the evil incarnations of the family of Kaliya. The actions of the modern-day Kaliyas need to be curbed ruthlessly and severe punishment must be awarded to them. Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan is making ardent efforts to create awareness amongst the masses to bring down the pollution level of the rivers, with a view to eliminate them totally in the foreseeable future. The near-impossible task has to be made possible by sincere efforts. Industrial affluent and waste are dumped into the rivers. The Sansthan gives top priority to environmental protection and wishes to enlist mass support for this noble endeavor.
2. Raise Govardhan, Raise!
Lord Krishna humbled the pride of wealth and powers of Lord Indra. He raised the mountain Govardhan from the ground and held it continuously on his little finger for 7 days. People of Brindavan took shelter from the torrential rains under the mountain. Lord Krishna was just 7 years of age at that time. In comparison, the leaders of the day indulge in actions that are not good for society and mankind. The Lord comes to the rescue of ordinary people when people in power cause insurmountable difficulties and restrict daily activities from being honestly and peacefully fulfilled.
3. The Radha-Krishna Union
Yog means union. Yoga is a spiritual science. Living cannot continue independent of nature. Every living being is dependent on the Soul of the Universe. When one surrenders to the Supreme Soul and reunite with the Almighty, we become complete. This is how the union between the soul of Radha and Lord Krishna is described. It is transcendental and at that level it becomes a unique bond of absolute love. Such a bond is preserved and protected by the soul of the Universe. Radha-Krishna represents Divine Love.
4. Meera
Among the ballet dances performed on stage by follower disciples of His Holiness Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, is an intriguing play on the life of Meera, who exhibits unbounded love for her deity Lord Krishna, and at his direction receives Divine Knowledge from her Guru Sant Ravidaas. And after receiving Divine Knowledge, she experiences the absolute Divine within, and reproduces texts and poems in praise of the Lord Almighty that broke the myths in the minds of people that clouded the thinking of people about the avatar of Lord Krishna. She also repeats that Lord Krishna, being an incarnation of the Supreme, descended upon Earth in the form of man, and alleviated society of evils and malice.
Preacher Disciples of Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji
Disciples of His Holiness are spiritually enlightened, experienced and hold top academic qualifications. All of them are blessed with Brahm Gyan and are engaged in the task to spread Divine Knowledge. They are exceptional among the brilliant, and at service at different centers of the Sansthan at all times. They’ve chosen to devote their entire life to the cause of global peace, and realize the objectives and goals of the mission set by His Holiness. Their saffron robes are an indicator of their inner spiritual growth and personality and their determination to tread the path of divinity. Aware of the part that internal revolution within individual minds will ultimately pave way for societal revolution and for the betterment of mankind, they preach to spread the message of Brahm Gyan. The target of the Sansthan is to achieve global peace by experiencing and practicing spirituality individually and collectively.
Stage Performances @Janmashtmi
The Janmashtmi event is marked by ballet performances on stage by enlightened followers of His Holiness, and spiritual orations by brother and sister preachers providing representation from all centers of the Sansthan. While scaled-down versions of the event are organized at every center of the organization, the event in New Delhi is organized as annual festivities for the organization. Proceeds of the event are telecast live on Aastha Channel, and include spiritual discourses, well researched talks on current issues concerning society, politics and national welfare and global wellness, health-related topics, yoga and holistic medicine, and how to inculcate a sense of discipline and awakening.
Shobha Yatra
A day before the commencement of the Janmashtami festivities and on the morning of the first day of celebrations, the Sansthan organizes Shobha Yatra, a holy and spiritual peace march. Many thousands of devotees of His Holiness, participate in this peace march that goes on for kilometers, meandering through various parts of the city. About one thousand preachers (brother and sister disciple followers) lead the peace march and add to its grandeur. The motive is to kindle awakening and curiosity amongst the masses about the ensuing celebrations over the next three days. Handouts and literature of the Sansthan is liberally distributed to the residents in the areas covered by the peace march. It is an invitation to the masses to attend the Mega Event being organized in the vicinity of their business establishments and residential abodes.
Performances by Youth
The stage performances by the youth wing of the organization in the form of ballets, skits and devotional songs are done to entertain, educate and contribute to internal illumination. Lord Krishna is the presiding deity of the divine love. Rehearsals for the performances commence months in advance, and final performances enthrall the audience. All the performers are the devotees of Maharaj Ji and not professionals. Yet, the level of perfection shown in the cultural items is stunningly marvelous. The divine grace of the Spiritual Master is visible through all types of activities. The audience remains spellbound during the entire duration of the program.
In Retrospect
The Shri Krishna Janmashtmi Mega Event has been organized by the Sansthan annually since more than two decades. In addition to the devotees, the multitude of people attending the event has grown each year. The social activities and the productive, employment-generating ventures of the organization have resulted in many utility and consumer products being offered in the market. The products are exhibited at the venue of the program so that consumers can view and avail an opportunity of purchasing them. The proceeds from the sale of these products is directed to further augment and strengthen the social empowerment initiatives of the organization. The products are known for their excellent grade and quality and compete aggressively for price in the open market. About 300,000 (3 lac) people visited the sites/stalls of the exhibitions during the last program.
The celebrations and festivities organized by the Sansthan have much more to offer to build the personalities of visitors and to provide to them and their families with a tangible and sustainable message. They explain that the path of spirituality can be and must be followed during the lifetime and introduced to youth and children at an early age. It is not an after-retirement project. Brahm Gyan is a mindful experience of divinity, that happens at a subtle transcendental level by the grace of a spiritual master who is capable of disseminating divine knowledge unto seekers of truth. Arjuna emerged victorious, not by polishing the arrows alone, but by galvanizing his inner self, being blessed by the Perfect Master of his Era, Lord Krishna!
